Light Diffusion Film is a semi-transparent material that diffuses and redirects light. Unlike microbeads or particles, light diffusion film does not block light but spreads diffused light onto the subject. The Rt of the Light Diffusion Film is measured in millimeters. The range should be from 7.5 to 15 millimeters. The Rt is the distance between the highest peak and the lowest valley. Flicker is prevented if Rt is less than seven millimeters. This film is available in various colors and textures. It may be flat or embossed. It may also have a monolithic structure.

The global Light Diffusion Film Market is estimated to surpass US$ 1,032 mn by the end of 2030 in terms of revenue, exhibiting a CAGR of 2.9% during the forecast period (2022 to 2030).

One type of light diffusion film is dielectric. The film can be made of polymer or resist. This material can be used to control the voltage and timely supply of the light dispersed liquid crystal film. When exposed to a light source, the light can pass through it and form a resist pattern. This pattern is known as a photoresist. The pattern of a positive photoresist pattern is shown in FIG. 19b. Polymethylsilsesquioxane is another type of light diffusion film. It is a white powder that will be added to different resins to change the path of diffused light output. Its primary characteristics are its low haze value and high transmittance rate. The polymer is a heat-stable polyester that can be used with high-temperature lighting fixtures. Its thin film allows light to pass through while maintaining the shape of the beam.

Another type of light diffusion film is made of translucent polycarbonate sheets for outdoor use. This type is more resistant to UV light than glass or acrylic. It also has superior impact strength compared to glass and acrylic diffusers. These films can be easily placed outdoors and do not degrade in a humid environment. These film types are available in many different colors and patterns. For instance, in May 2022, Rotolight, a major light diffusion film provider in the U.K., launched SmartSoft Box, the first-ever smart electronic softbox that enables photographers to manage the focus, spread, and diffusion of their light sources without any modifiers.
