Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) are a form of transport that can drive themselves through a specified path while avoiding obstacles. They are used in various applications in manufacturing, logistics and transportation. However, these systems are not suitable for repetitive tasks.

Automated guided vehicles can work in a wide range of environments, including hot or cold temperatures, dusty or dangerous areas. Unlike forklifts, they can operate continuously without stopping to rest, making them a more reliable solution. These vehicles are also more cost effective than hiring staff to perform a certain task. AGVs can be guided by laser, magnetic, optical or infrared navigation. The use of these technologies will boost demand for these vehicles in the future. Some companies are already using automated vehicles to reduce the labor cost associated with their operations.

The global Automated Guided Vehicle Market was valued at US$ 5.1 Bn in 2019 and is expected to reach US$ 21.3 Bn by 2027 at a CAGR of 12.1% between 2020 and 2027.

Other manufacturers have increased their production of AGVs to satisfy the rising demand. Automation has become a trend in many industries. For example, several Indian manufacturers are reaping the benefits of robotized manufacturing. Moreover, the country's growing retail sector is expected to propel sales of AGVs. The main application of AGVs is in the transportation industry. This is mainly due to the use of forklifts in hotels for distribution is anticipated to increase. As a result, the need for efficient material handling solutions will help to drive automated guided vehicle sales. However, with increased dependency on these machines, care must be taken to ensure that they are not damaged or lost in transit.

Recently, in November 2022, Eve Autonomy, launched “eve auto”, its autonomous transportation service that recently has been developed jointly with TIER IV and Yamaha Motor. This commercial autonomous transportation services is the first of its kind in Japan, with Level 4 driverless autonomous EVs.
